NOTICE – The next meeting of the BR RC Club will be Tuesday, June 6 at the Greenwell Springs Road Library at 7:00 PM

President McMillan was not in attendance nor was Vice President Dedon in attendance.  The meeting was lead by the Secretary Willard Beard.

The meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM.

The Secretary read the minutes from our April 2006 meeting.  Glenn Darce had a clarification on the raffle approved by the membership at our April meeting.  The clarification reads as follows:

BATON ROUGE R/C CLUB RAFFLE

Members only and present at meeting
1. Is a card holding club member.
2. Be present at the meeting
3. Buy one or more tickets for $1.00 each

The way it works.  Four donated items by club members will be on a table.  You may purchase one or more tickets.  At the end of our meeting, someone will draw four tickets for the door prizes.  Each drawn ticket winner chooses one item from the table.  All the tickets will then be placed in another container for the Grand Prize at a later date.  All the money will be turned in to B. C. at the end of the meeting.  When the collected money that B. C. has reaches a given amount, this will be the Grand prize.  All tickets, which have been purchased at other meetings, have a second chance.    Example: you are a card holding club member present at the meeting.  You buy one ticket.  The club has voted on the amount for the Grand prize to be $100.  When the collected money from donated items reaches $100, then there is a drawing for the Grand Prize at the next meeting.  Even if you have purchased only one ticket it is still good for the Grand Prize drawing.

The Grand Prize money will go to the club member who is present and holding the winning ticket.
Any questions? PLEASE say something.  The idea is to draw more club members to our meetings and get new membership.

The minutes were approved as amended by all members present.

Our Treasurer was asked for a report on our financial status.  He gave his report and all members present approved it.

Blackie was asked for a Field Committee report.  He said the grass was green and the field was in good shape.

Safety – Mike was absent but Mickey told us about his recent experience with a screwdriver.  He punctured the top of his hand with a screwdriver.  He cleaned the wound and didn’t think any thing more of it.  He later hit his hand with a hammer and several hours later had to go to the emergency room.  They found that he had a severe infection of the left hand.  They put him in the hospital and operated on his hand a couple of days later.  He said he was afraid he was going to lose his hand.  It was that bad.  He is doing much better now, thanks to the medical attention and drugs he got in the hospital and the outstanding care his at home nurse “Judy” gave him when he came home.  He reminded everyone to make sure you take care of any puncture wound and get a tetanus shot.

Vic said he had a similar puncture wound but didn’t get the infection.

OLD BUSINESS
Charlie still has fuel available.
Vic still has caps available.

Lee gave us an update on our club events scheduled for the year.  He reminded everyone that Vic will hold the Family day this Saturday May 6.

Vic gave us a summary of what we could expect.  He also said that he took a flyer to Mrs. Kissner and invited all of them to attend.  He said she was very pleased that we remembered them.  Vic said that a flyer was either emailed or mailed to each member.

NEW BUSINESS
B. C. commented on an email he received from AMA dealing with a proposal to make a new division for electric planes.  It was discussed and each member was encouraged to respond to it, as he feels appropriate.

Vic said that he and Alvin took the green riding lawn mower to his house and checked it over and got it running.  He said it has a 12 HP Briggs engine that runs good but the deck and the front tires are bad.  He wanted to know what we wanted to do with it.  Several proposals were offered to sell it.  It was finally agreed by motion approved by all members present to have a silent auction at the family day fly in this Saturday.  Butch and Mike will accept silent bids and will announce the winning bid at the end of the day Saturday.  The member will then pay for the mower and remove it from the field.

Blackie said that he has been using the can money for miscellaneous field maintenance expenses.  He said that some people didn’t feel this was the best way to handle the money.  The matter was discussed and a motion was made and seconded to keep the process as it is being handled now.  All members present approved the motion.
The purchase of a new mower for the field was brought before the membership.  The mower replacement committee, appointed at the last meeting, presented its findings.  They recommended that we buy a Sears mower with an extended warranty.  The recommendation was brought forward as a motion and was approved by all members present.  We also discussed the options we had for paying for the mower.  It was finally agreed by vote that we pay cash for it.  The mower will cost $2900+ total.  Blackie will order the mower at his convenience.

A motion was made and seconded that we adjourn at 8:17 PM.

After the meeting the raffle drawings were handled for the items on display.

Jimmy Lyon demonstrated a new electric plane he had.
